Sands Point Resident and RMI Consulting President Receives Top 50 Influential Women in Business Award

Long Island Business News has named RMI Consulting President MaryAnn Sackman — a resident of Sands Point — one of Long Island's Top 50 Influential Women in Business for 2010.  A selection committee at the business publication reviews candidates based on their contributions to the region's economy and community. The Annual Awards Dinner in May will pay tribute to women of prominence in a wide cross section of Long Island industries.

"Even in the face of a weak economy, Long Island's community of business leaders is resilient and continues to share opportunities and advice," said Sackman, who with James Barber co-founded Port Washington's RMI Consulting, Inc., in 1980. "I'm extremely proud to be counted among these Top 50 and to stand united in our efforts to benefit the growth and well being of our entire region."

Sackman and RMI Consulting created their brand by having RMI act as risk manager for clients — not solely insurance advisor. Today, RMI clients cover real estate, food management, health, educational institutions and more. The company is also recognized for its innovative group purchasing programs under the umbrella RPG Management and providing risk coverage aligned by industry.

The Sands Point resident was most recently recognized with a 2009 Women in Real Estate distinction by New York Real Estate Journal. In 2008, RMI Consulting earned Long Island Business News "Best of Long Island" recognition, and for three consecutive years, RMI has received the "Readers Choice Award" from the national trade magazine, Business Insurance.

A member of the Society of Risk Management Consultants, Sackman is an industry trailblazer and a model for other women entering the field. She is also widely quoted in the media as an expert source on risk management.

Sackman is committed to fundraising for St. Mary's Health Care System for Children; in particular, their Continuing Life Care Community project. This project addresses a dilemma faced by the families of young people with special needs, who may require round-the-clock care but, by 21, often 'age out' of existing programs. The Continuing Life Care Community seeks to offer a real home environment for these young people for the balance of their lives.

RMI Consulting, located in Port Washington, was founded in 1980 to help companies manage risk and minimize exposure. RMI consultants function as advocates and as integrated part-time risk managers for their clients, analyzing the best means of taking full advantage of programs, broadening coverage, and saving costs.
