2012 SOUPer Bowl Champs Declared

Innuendo wins Judges' Choice Award for its Logmahn soup.

The results for SOUPer Bowl 2012 are in.

The judges took their assignment seriously as they tasted and rated all the soups. The winner of the Judges' choice Award went to Innuendo for its Logmahn soup. According to the restaurant's menu, the soup features sautéed peppers, onions, tomatoes, celery, carrots, garlic, and long beans combined with hearty chunks of beef and diced potatoes, covered in a rich beef broth, and served with homemade noodles.

Judges include sportscaster Len Berman; Anne Arter of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty; Wendy Collett, chef and owner of Dry Babe; Christine Sanchez, sous chef for Bobby Flay; and Marq Gregg, student at the Helen Keller National Center.

The public was then invited to taste  the soups and cast ballots. About 500 people attended SOUPer Bowl V and about 400 voted for their favorite soups. The people's choice for the 2012 SOUPer Bowl Champ is The Amsterdam at Harborside for its Potato Leek Soup with Chicken Sausage.

The event was held at the United Methodist Church on Saturday. Nineteen local restaurants participated, and a portion of the proceeds went to the Twin Pines Consumers Food Pantry.

I'm not surprised that the Amsterdam at Harborside's Potato Leek w/Chicken Sausage took top people's choice honors. My only regret is that I will have to wait more than a decade until I can move there and enjoy it once more. I also thought the mulligatawny from Sullivan's Quay was outstanding. But the Logmahn from Innuendo as the judges choice winner? Really? It was the only soup there that I actually spat out. But then again, perhaps my palate is unrefined. Oh, well.

Innuendo is the best restaurant in port Washington so far. They have great food, huge bar and live dj. Every time I go there, I enjoy the food and a nice atmosphere.

Adina, I am with you...I thought the White Bean soup from Main Street Bakery was the best. And, I also thought Sullivan's mulligatawny was delicious!
