The enormous momentum created by Port Rowing continued Friday night with a fundraising event that attracted a packed house. The row-a-thon, held in the Port Rowing Center on Channel Drive, reached 1,000,000 meters in 4 hours, 46 minutes and 3 seconds.
Although relatively new, the organization has attacted 150 students and is currently the largest crew team on Long Island. Sue Carras, a Friends of Rowing board member and Schreiber parent, attributes its popularity to the fact that, "no one is turned away and that everyone can row, it just takes determination and grit."
The winter training season started two weeks ago and practices are held four days a week and on Saturday mornings. Captain Spencer Moslow said, "As a team, we're close and have alot of spirit." Co-Captain Eve Drum agreed, saying, "Everyone has a good time."

Head Coach Steve Panzik said, "It was an overwhelming success as parents raced along side their kids. This is something special that is developing here and I am very proud and honored to be part of this program and these kids. Everyone gave their heart out there and when there was only team left everyone gathered around and cheered for that team. This is more than a team, this is becoming a family."
