Benefit Concert to Raise Funds for Music Library

Admission is free, but money or sheet-music donations are welcome.

Thursday marks the date of a free music benefit performed by members of Schreiber High School's Tri-M Music Honor Society.

The benefit, designed to help create a music library at Schreiber, will be held at Schreiber's Choir Room, from 7:30-9 p.m. And while there is no admission fee, donations in the form of money or sheet music are requested.

The library would support students wishing to participate in the annual New York State School Music Association (or NYSSMA) festival. These students must possess two original copies of the sheet music for their solo repertoire, according to NYSSMA guidelines.

This kind of requirement can get costly for students, who otherwise have no need for two identical copies for one piece of music. Tri-M's goal is to build a school music library that loans out sheet music so students would not have to buy a second copy of the same piece.

On behalf of his Tri-M members, Tri-M co-president Joonyup Yeom said in his message to Patch, "We intend to fill the library with standard NYSSMA repertoire for all instruments, so please come to this concert, enjoy fine music, and make a donation!"
