Lillian Carey, Port Washington Resident, Dies at 92

A lifelong Port resident, Carey was devoted to her family and her church.

 

Lillian Carey, a lifelong Port Washington resident, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011.  

Carey is survived by two sisters, a brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was known by her relatives as a loving woman who was extremely devoted to her family and her church, St. Peter of Alcantara. She hosted many family gatherings, especially on holidays, said her great-niece, Allison Gomez. 

"She was the kindest person you would ever meet," Gomez said. "She would do anything for you – and never once thought about what was best for her, only what was best for the people around her."  

Carey's wake will he held at Austin F. Knowels Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from  7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb 1. A funeral mass will be held Wed., Feb. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter of Alcantara. The burial will be at  Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, 17200 Booth Memorial Avenue in Flushing, Queens.
