Port Washington Recovery Center Update

The Port Washington Hurricane Recovery Center at Landmark on Main Street continues to thrive between the hours of 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m. on Monday. The centre received about 800 visitors Sunday.

Organizer Rob Seiden described the center as "really amazing. We registered 30 more volunteers."

On Sunday, Rep. Steve Israel, Port Washington-Manhasset Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Forman, and Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel all checked in. In addition, recently retired Port Washington Public School Superintendent Dr. Geoffrey Gordon also stopped by. Gordon will manage the tutoring on Monday after school for students who need to do homework in a lighted area at the Landmark that will be set aside for the students, Seiden said..

There was plenty to do on Sunday at Landmark. "We had the Giants game on the big screen and showed Young Frankenstein afterward," Seiden said. "We also had volunteers make nutritious lunches in brown bags for the Port students who may not have food in their homes in the event the schools don't have sufficient supplies. 

And, there was lots of hot food donated by: L'ptite Framboise,  Let There Be Bagels, Piccola Liguria, Wings Plus,  Finn Maccool's, Louie's, Haven BBQ Grill, and Toscanini.
