Sands Point Cats Being Nursed Back to Health, Adoption Drive and Public Viewing Set for this Weekend

Some of the 67 "caged cats" discovered on the Sands Point Preserve last Monday were treated by the Animal Lovers League (ALL) of Glen Cove and returned to a secure building on the preserve. There, they will continue to receive care while awaiting an adoption drive this weekend at the Glen Cove Petco.

About 47 of the cats were taken and treated by the ALL Shelter and the remaining ones were taken by the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington. The North Shore Animal League says if the cats are healthy enough for adoption, they will begin offering them for adoption starting on Thursday. However they advise area residents searching for a lost pet who believe their cat could be one of the Sands Point Cats, to contact them at (516) 883-7575.

Nassau County officials and police  have not commented on any pending charges or who may be responsible for catching and caging the cats.

Check out the video to see the cats that were returned to Sands Point Preserve yesterday.

Please, as part of the adoption paperwork, include a pledge that the new owner will keep the cat indoors, out of harm's way and also where it can do no harm.

So glad these innocent animals are getting a second chance at life. Thank you again to NSAL and ALL for seeing they get the care and homes they deserve.
