See "Up" Drive-in Style at N. Hempstead Beach Park

The movie is open to to the public, free of charge on Thursday evening.

The drive-in movie has been resurrected, at least for Thursday evening at North Hempstead Beach Park, where the Town of North Hempstead is presenting "Up." The film begins at 8:30 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.

This Pixar animated film tells the story of a 78-year-old man who ties thousands of balloons to his home, hoping for liftoff to see South America. Reluctantly, he winds up with a companion, a young boy, who is eager to earn a merit badge for assisting the elderly. Along the way,the pair meet up with a team of talking dogs.

The result is "a lovely, thoughtful, and yes, uplifting adventure about an old guy, a kid, and a house that sails through the air, opening up new routes in life to people who thought they were stuck in their loneliness" Lisa Schwarzbaum wrote in "Entertainment Weekly" upon the film's release in 2009.

Directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Bob Peterson, the film includes the voiceover work of Ed Asner, Christopher Plummber, Jordan Nagai, Bob Peterson, Delroy Lindo, Jerome Ranft and John Ratzenberger. The film's score was written by Michael Giacchino. Nominated for five Academy Awards, the film picked up two, including Best Animated Feature Film and Original Score.

For more information about the event contact the Town of North Hempstead's call center at 311.
