Port Washington Girl Scouts don't just sell cookies.

With Valentine's Day approaching, the girl scouts are participating in Valentines for Vets, a program sponsored by Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, D-Great Neck, which took place Saturaday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The troops were also collecting goods for needy veterans.

Between making cards and collecting goods, the girls also met women who are currently serving the country. One vet and three cadets spoke to the Girl Scouts about the importance of being strong and independent.

After the girl scouts finished listening to the speakers, the girls walked around exchanging handmade Swaps, a girl scout tradition which stands for Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.
