1. Heading to the 11 a.m. Giants victory parade that starts at Battery Place? The Long Island Rail Road is adding trains to the Port Washington line. There will be an extra train leaving Great Neck at 9:50 a.m. After the parade, the LIRR will add a 3:18 p.m. train, stopping at Woodside, Flushing-Main Street, then all stops to Port Washington. Now, two years later, Patch Places is a spot where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods, and much more for spots around town. All users can add events taking place at local spots, can rate the business on a scale of one to five stars, and can add a review. Collett, 45, is the founder of Dry Babe, a Port Washington internet company that makes absorbent sleepwear for “hot mamas” – women who suffer from night sweats triggered by hormone imbalance, illness and medication. A former HR professional who worked in the luxury fragrance industry, Collett founded Dry Babe in May 2011. She knew all about night sweats firsthand, having suffered from them since she was 40. 2012 SOUPer Bowl Champs Declared

Innuendo wins Judges' Choice Award for its Logmahn soup.

The results for SOUPer Bowl 2012 are in. The judges took their assignment seriously as they tasted and rated all the soups. The winner of the Judges' choice Award went to Innuendo for its Logmahn soup. According to the restaurant's menu, the soup features sautéed peppers, onions, tomatoes, celery, carrots, garlic, and long beans combined with hearty chunks of beef and diced potatoes, covered in a rich beef broth, and served with homemade noodles.  Judges include sportscaster Len Berman; Anne Arter of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty; Wendy Collett, chef and owner of Dry Babe; Christine Sanchez, sous chef for Bobby Flay; and Marq Gregg, student at the Helen Keller National Center. 2012 SOUPer Bowl is Saturday

Get ready for the fifth annual SOUPer Bowl, which kicks off Saturday from 12-3 p.m. at at the Fellowship Hall in the United Methodist Church. Sponsored by the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, the SOUPer Bowl is the chance to come in from the cold, and enjoy a warm and tasty lunch prepared by some of the area's best chefs.  Here's what to expect: 19 local restaurants and food establishments will be donating their best soups for the contest and hope to be voted Port Washington’s 2012 SOUPer Bowl Champ. The public is invited to “buy a spoon” and become a “taster.” According to the chamber, tasters, after paying the admission fee, are given a hand stamp and a ballot. The hand stamp allows tasters to sample two ounces of each of the soups …

Students Win 'Shop Port Holiday Essay Contest'

The awards ceremony takes place Feb. 9 at the library.

Why shop in town? Some local students gave their reasons by entering the the "Shop Port Holiday Essay Contest" sponsored by the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District. Ten are taking home cash prizes while 14 earn honorable mentions at an awards ceremony hosted by the BID's board of directors on Feb 9 in the Lapham Meeting Room at the Port Washington Public Library;  5-6:30 p.m. All are invited to attend.  The competition, open to all Kindergarten through high school students enrolled in the Port Washington School District and St. Peter of Alcantara School, encouraged Port Washington’s youth to write what creative things they would do to make shopping in Port an exciting and memorable experience and how would they accomplish…

HEARTS (Helping Enrich the Arts) is holding a public meeting to review plans for PortFest, a community event taking place this spring that celebrates local artists and musicians in Port Washington. 7-9 p.m. Schreiber High School 2.
