DARK VIOLIN: American Songbook Sparks and Arcs on Electric Violin.
Port Washington Public Library, 1 Library Dr, Port Washington, NY | Get Directions »
FREE
Port resident Mark Underwood uses electric violins and an ensemble of technologies to re-imagine tunes such as “If I Loved You,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and Irving Berlin’s “Reaching for the Moon.” As early as the mid-1960s, some critics said that popular music’s turn toward folk rock genres signaled the death of the American Songbook. While rock is still strong in the 21s t century, the digital era is changing the way the American Songbook is interpreted. Dark Violin is one such interpreter. 3 p.m.
