Christine Panico: Why Do You Relay?

Relay for life set for June 15 at Schreiber.

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life celebrates 12 years in Port Washington on Saturday, June 15 and this year, moves back to the Schreiber High School track on Campus Drive.

Christine Panico has been involved with Relay for Life in Port Washington for 10 years. She shares why she Relays.

"I Relay because both of my parents left me ... way too young! My mother definitely missed out on my kids and my father only really got to know my 2 older kids. My mother passed away from breast cancer in 1991 at the age of 44 years old. My father passed away from lung cancer in 2007 at the age of 63 yrs old.

I Relay because through early detection and research
we are making our mark on cancer!"

Not to miss this year at Relay for Life: student cancer survivors speak at the Opening Ceremony at 7 p.m., the Survivor/Caregiver Lap and Reception at 7:45p.m. and the Luminaria Lighting Ceremony at 9 p.m., Steve Mariboli, PhD will share his caregiver story. Also look for performances by the Salem School Choir and local rock band, Lil Sammy and the Funked Up Daddies, the PWFD's Barbecue @ 10pm, raffles, terrific prizes, a giant Jenga contest and lots more!

Join your neighbors, bring family and friends...Don't want to stay overnight? No worries, there are many ways to get involved...start a team, join a team, purchase a Luminaria or two, buy a raffle ticket, donate a raffle item, be a volunteer, come soak up the energy, walk a few laps or walk a few miles, just come and become a part of this hope-filled event.
