Dr. Steve Maraboli, Why Do You Relay?

Annual event to run June 15 in Port Washington.

Story by Lee Anne Timothy

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life celebrates 12 years in Port Washington on Saturday, June 15 and this year, moves back to the Schreiber High School track on Campus Drive.

Dr. Steve Maraboli is a Behavioral Scientist, author, Leadership Coach and host of his own radio program. He is also a Schreiber graduate and tries to watch the sunset every evening from his office here in Port. Steve will share his story at Relay during the Luminaria Ceremony on June 15.

He explains why he Relays:

"I Relay because no matter how devastating cancer can be, it can never dilute the strong bond and love shared amongst those who have been knocked down… and have the courage to stand up."

Not to miss this year at Relay for Life: student cancer survivors speak at the  7 p.m. Opening Ceremony, the Survivor/Caregiver Lap and Reception at 7:45 p.m. and Steve Mariboli, PhD will share his caregiver story during the Luminaria Lighting Ceremony at 9 p.m. Also, look for performances by the Salem School Choir and local rock band, Lil Sammy and the Funked Up Daddies, the PWFD's Barbecue at 10 p.m., raffles, terrific prizes, a giant Jenga contest and lots more!

Join your neighbors, bring family and friends ... Don't want to stay overnight? No worries, there are many ways to get involved ... start a team, join a team, purchase a Luminaria or two, buy a raffle ticket, donate a raffle item, be a volunteer, come soak up the energy, walk a few laps or walk a few miles, just come and become a part of this hope-filled event.
