Rachel Kramer: Why Do You Relay?

Annual event set for June 15.

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life celebrates 12 years in Port Washington on Saturday, June 15 and this year, moves back to the Schreiber High School track on Campus Drive.

This year's Opening Ceremony features student cancer survivors who will share their inspiring stories. Rachel Kramer is a cancer survivor, Schreiber Graduate and just (!) graduated from Muhlenberg College with degrees in Dance and Business. Rachel has been active in Relay for Life at college and shares why she Relays ....

“I am so excited to be speaking at Port Washington's Relay! Seems like just yesterday I was participating in my first Relay freshman year of Schreiber and now I'm graduating college! I Relay so that none of my friends and family have to hear the words "you have cancer" like I did seven years ago."

Not to miss this year at Relay for Life: the Opening Ceremony at 7 p.m., the Survivor/Caregiver Lap and Reception at 7:45 p.m. and the Luminaria Lighting Ceremony at 9 p.m., Steve Mariboli, PhD will share his caregiver story. Also look for performances by the Salem School Choir and local rock band, Lil Sammy and the Funked Up Daddies, the PWFD's Barbecue at 10 p.m., raffles, terrific prizes, a giant Jenga contest and lots more.

Join your neighbors, bring family and friends ... Don't want to stay overnight? No worries, there are many ways to get involved ... start a team, join a team, purchase a Luminaria or two, buy a raffle ticket, donate a raffle item, be a volunteer, come soak up the energy, walk a few laps or walk a few miles, just come and become a part of this hope-filled event.
