Relay For Life: She Lights Up Relay!

Annual event set for June 15.

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life celebrates 12 years in Port Washington on Saturday, June 15 and this year, moves back to the Schreiber High School track on Campus Drive.

Michele Hyde organizes the beautiful Luminaria that outline the Relay track...when lit, these small white bags are a poignant reminder to remember, celebrate and fight back against cancer. This year, she has stepped up to event co-Chair. Michele shares why she Relays..."I Relay for two friends, Amy and Christine, who were taken - way too young - from cancer.  I also Relay for a number of family members, including my mother, my step-father, my mother-in-law and her three sisters, and a number of friends who, thankfully, are all survivors.   But more than anything, I Relay for my kids - that they NEVER hear a doctor tell them they have cancer."

Not to miss this year at Relay for Life: student cancer survivors speak at the Opening Ceremony at 7 p.m., the Survivor/Caregiver Lap and Reception at 7:45p.m. and the Luminaria Lighting Ceremony at 9 p.m., Steve Mariboli, PhD will share his caregiver story. Also look for performances by the Salem School Choir and local rock band, Lil Sammy and the Funked Up Daddies, the PWFD's Barbecue @ 10pm, raffles, terrific prizes, a giant Jenga contest and lots more!

Join your neighbors, bring family and friends...Don't want to stay overnight? No worries, there are many ways to get involved...start a team, join a team, purchase a Luminaria or two, buy a raffle ticket, donate a raffle item, be a volunteer, come soak up the energy, walk a few laps or walk a few miles, just come and become a part of this hope-filled event.
