Writing Group; Bad Hair Day?

Port Writes: The group discusses their work and how to get it published in a talk facilitated by Michael Chaplan at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Port Washington Library. Admission is free.

Project Independence: The Town of North Hempstead's Project Independence presents a session for seniors on how to prevent falls and remain safe in the home. The event runs Wednesday at the "Yes We Can!" Community Center, 141 Garden St. in Westbury,  beginning at 10:30 a.m. Call 311 or 869-6311 to register. 

Today In History: Hurricane Katrina made landfall near New Orleans as a Category 4 hurricane on this day in 2005. Despite being only the third most powerful storm of the 2005 hurricane season, Katrina was the worst natural disaster in the history of the U.S., according to history.com.
