DOUGLAS ELLIMAN AGENTS GO GATSBY WITH EXCLUSIVE PRIVATE SCREENING OF BAZ LUHRMANN'S NEW FILM ON LONG ISLAND

On Wednesday, May 8th, Douglas Elliman Real Estate agents will join iconic director Baz Luhrmann at the exclusive private screening of his highly anticipated film “The Great Gatsby,” hosted by The Gold Coast International Film Festival. The film, based upon F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic 1925 novel, is set on Long Island’s luxurious Gold Coast. The event is being sponsored by The Gold Coast International Film Festival, Douglas Elliman, and Starbucks, among others.
Douglas Elliman, a sponsor of the Gold Coast International Film Festival since its inception two years ago, will invite their top agents from Long Island to a private screening of the 3D film at Soundview Cinemas in Port Washington, and an after party at Hempstead House, one of the famed Gold Coast mansions.
“This is a terrific opportunity to celebrate Long Island and the spectacular homes along its Gold Coast,” said Ann Conroy, Douglas Elliman Long Island Division President.
“We are thrilled to be included in this exciting moment in cinema, and in our community.  Douglas Elliman has a very strong presence on the North Shore, and we are very proud that one of the most talked about films this year is debuting in our backyard, where the story took place,” said Douglas Elliman’s Karen Newhouse, Sales Manager of the Port Washington office and a member of the Gold Coast International Film Festival Committee.
“The festival brings a lot of national and international attention to the North Shore, and we’ve supported and believed in it since the beginning,” added Ed D’Ambrosio, Elliman’s North Shore Vice President who helped spearhead the partnership with Gold Coast International Film Festival.
Douglas Elliman is currently representing several properties with ties to The Great Gatsby since the novel’s “West Egg” and “East Egg” were fictionalized versions of the North Shore villages of Kings Point and Sands Point, respectively. 8 Sands Light, a 5 bedroom, 4,800 SF waterfront home currently on the market in Sands Point for $5.9 million, is sited on the former Gold Coast estate known as Beacon Towers. The original gothic-style mansion was reportedly Fitzgerald’s inspiration for Jay Gatsby’s lavish mansion. According to a history of the area written by Raymond and Judith Spinzia, “This presumption appears to have been fueled by Fitzgerald’s description of Daisy’s first view of the mansion – ‘the feudal silhouette against the sky.’ ” Property records show that the current home was built over the estate’s former tennis court.
The Great Gatsby hits theaters nationwide on May 10th. For more information on the Gold Coast International Film Festival visit  http://www.goldcoastfilmfestival.org
