Community Chest Grant Applications for 2011 Available Now

Not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 charitable organizations that provide services to the community of Port Washington are eligible to apply for grants from the Community Chest of Port Washington.  Grant funds can provide general operating support or specific program support but cannot be used for capital items.  In the past, grants have ranged from $1,000 to $45,000.  The total amount of money the Chest can allocate in grants is based on the amount of money it raises in its annual fundraising campaign (check out the “Red Feather” by the Train Station and Post Office).  The application is available on-line at www.portchest.org or you can request an application by calling the Chest office at (516) 767-2121.  The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 18, 2011.  Criteria used to evaluated applications include the need for services in Port Washington, the number of Port Washingtonians served, the need for funds, the ability of the applicant to deliver the services, and the fiscal management and stability of the organization.  Applications are reviewed and interviews are conducted in April and May by a committee of the Chest.  Decisions are finalized, and organizations are notified of results in June 2011.  Questions? Email info@portchest.org or call (516) 767-2121.

Too bad she doesn't view the UNSIGHTLY MASSIVE SCAM OVERLAY DISTRICT THAT WILL RUIN THE CHARACTER OFRead More THE TOWN with the same disdain as most of her constituents: "...De Giorgio, a Republican who announced her bid for supervisor last month, said the proposals amount to creating an unsightly storage yard in Port Washington. "The idea of storing these massive trains, adding two storage tracks to Port Washington, will completely ruin the character of the town," she said. "This is creating a train depot in Port Washington..."
