“It won’t be just the first production of a new community theater group,” said Cow Bay Theatre Company’s board member, Laura Leigh Carroll, “it will be more — a happening, an event!”
The “it” Carroll was referring to is the Cow Bay Theatre Company’s initial production, “Love Letters,” by Pulitzer Prize-winner, A.R. Gurney. It makes its debut at the Jeanne Rimsky Theatre at the Landmark on Main Street Jan. 24and 25, to be followed by a dinner theater presentation of the play at Ayhan’s Mediterranean Marketplace & Café. Carroll, is a member of the theater company’s public relations and marketing committee. Her enthusiasm shows. “We’re only using 162 seats for each performance. So when we say limited seating, we’re not kidding,’ said Carroll. “Anybody who has bought tickets for a Broadway show or even for comparable community theater productions on Long Island — can tell you this is a good deal.”
There will be a special reception immediately preceding the performance on Jan. 24 for members of the Company, sponsors, dignitaries, and public officials including some well-known names. “However,” added Alyssa Negri, Cow Bay’s president, “during the reception, we will be giving the first of three — what-we-hope-will-be — annual awards to be presented to someone who has distinguished himself or herself in professional theater or motion pictures over a period of years. There will be another to an outstanding organization and a third to an individual, not a performer, but rather someone whose work on behalf the cultural arts merits recognition.” She added, “I can’t say more at this time, but we expect to announce the details in full within the next two weeks.”
Jim Avena, Cow Bay Theatre Company’s treasurer, has also announced an added inducement for old and new members. “The reception is primarily for current members in good standing,” said Avena. “But we also welcome those who would like to become members, whether they act or not. And when they join by January 11th, they are automatically invited to enjoy our pre-play reception, which we hope will be a memorable occasion,”
