IHadCancer.com Searching for Survivors, Supporters and Fighters

NEW YORK, October 4, 2012 – IHadCancer.com, an online cancer support community based in Manhattan, is looking for 15 survivors, fighters and supporters from the tri-state area to be the new faces of their site. IHadCancer.com will be holding a video shoot in late October, where the featured members will have the opportunity to have their stories professionally produced. IHadCancer will feature the members and their stories on their site.

“Too many people face cancer feeling isolated and frightened,” says Mailet Lopez, breast cancer survivor and founder of the site. “With numbers showing that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, there is no reason why anyone should go through it alone.”

Lopez created the support network after her breast cancer diagnosis in 2008. She felt that there was a need for cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones to be able to easily find others in similar situations to their own. The site allows users to search members by age, gender, location and type of cancer. Once users connect they are encouraged to use their experiences with cancer to help one another. Members use the site both to connect through the system as well as find offline support in ways never imagined before. The site has grown dramatically and has just passed its 1 year anniversary mark with nearly 10,000 registered users.

“We are excited to give our members the opportunity to share their stories, meet other members and the staff of I Had Cancer, and spread the message that ‘You’re not alone’,” says Lopez.

If you would like more information on becoming one of the 15 featured members, email feedback@ihadcancer.com with information about yourself. Anyone who has been affected by cancer can join the community by registering at IHadCancer.com/User/Register.

I hope the closing is only temporary. I purchased milk and other items from Dairy Barn for manyRead More years. Always got good quality products. Never had a problem.

With the loss of "D-Barn", the lack of a drive-through convenience store creates a voidRead More worth filling.

There was very little publicity about the budget this year. I was disappointed that the increase wasRead More over 3.5 percent. We still haven't addressed the salary issues and maybe we never will. Until the salary and benefit package is decreased, there will never be a reduction in the cost of education in Port Washinton.

What does it matter? No matter what you do, the budget increase will pass. Just empty your pocketsRead More and move on.

Historically, that was a problem with "NO" voters...

if we are going to sell off our 40 spot lot why not advocate for the LIRR to chip in and helpRead More building the 2 or 3 story parking lot on Haven? with more trains and more population we need more parking. we are fooling ourselves that this is not a "Hicksville" type train station. we are a main hub and it needs a substantial parking lot that will help commuter parking and help retail parking in the main lots off of main street. anyone who does not want that parking lot built needs to really ask themselves why not. if we can build a new car wash on a main cut through street for no reason we can get this done with the same traffic nightmares!!! BTW during construction which im sure will take at least a year. where will those people park? in the other lots, so us who take the 808 train will get screwed bc we will not have a place to park now.
Nassau Taxpayer May 23, 2013 at 12:52 pm
Good spot for a multi-story municipal/LIRR garage, given the height of terrain behind it.
Bob May 20, 2013 at 06:28 pm
I agree. This lot should be open all the time. Maybe there is a potential liability issue butRead More let's see if it can be worked out.

A 135 million dollar budget with another 5 million+ assured for next year, teachers have to buyRead More "school supplies" in Port Washington? Are you kidding?
