Port Washington Police Joins Prescription Drug Initiative

On April 30, 2011, the Drug Enforcement Administration will be conducting their second “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.”  The purpose of this program is to provide a venue for persons who want to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  According to a 2009 national survey, more than 7 million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs. Each day, approximately 2,400 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

Due to the overwhelming success of the first event, the DEA has scheduled the second event to take place on April 30, 2011 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

You may bring your unwanted prescription drugs to , 500 Port Washington Boulevard during those hours.

YOU WILL REMAIN ANONYMOUS AND THERE WILL BE NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!

For further information, please contact Chief William Kilfoil at 516-883-0500 x305.
