Port Washington

Live entertainment will take place on three outdoor stages and indoors at the Paul D. Schreiber High School Auditorium.  There will be an incredible variety of 29 performances ranging from student organizations to local bands to performing artists to local dance and music studios. There will be 38 diverse family-friendly interactive activities hosted by each of the Port Washington public schools and several local community organizations.  One of the largest exhibitions will be the PortFest Art Exhibit that will boast more than twenty-six works from various local artists.  Also, Larry and Lynn Chrapliwy of Cow Neck Painters will be providing Plein Air Painting and Pastel Drawing demonstrations for attendees throughout the day.

But wait…. There is more!

Besides all the performances to see, get your creative juices flowing at our art and design activity tents. Each school has designed a unique hands-on creative activity for you and your family. Learn a new skill and take home something great. Activities are appropriate for all ages and are family oriented.  Many of our Community Organization partners will also have hands on

Activities, as well.

John J. Daly School will have an exhibit where you can make an inspirational mixed-media personal statement by creating a wooden plaque using words, magazine cut-outs, images, buttons, and all kinds of different fun doodads.

Get ready for summer by making and designing your own Flip-Flops sponsored by Guggenheim Elementary School. Create your own customized sandals to fit your own unique style using beads, ribbon and more.

Light-up Paper Lanterns will be featured at the Manorhaven Elementary Schools exhibit.  Spruce up for Spring and decorate 12” hanging paper lanterns or canvases with colored paper cut-out patterns. Get crafty with us and walk away with some modern and fresh decor for the kids’ rooms.

One of the most popular exhibits will be Salem Elementary Schools Tie-Dye Extravaganza.  Make your own wearable art at our tie-dye tent. Each tie-dye creation is as unique as a snowflake. Express yourself using vibrant colors and learn a skill that you can use again. Choose from t-shirts and knee high socks.

Who can resist Body Art: Tattoos & Face Painting by Schreiber High School?  Transform yourself with face paint and glitter tattoos.

We think that Sousa’s new exhibit on Candle Making is going to be very popular!  Create your very own Beeswax Candles from dry, heatfree, colorful 100% natural beeswax sheets. You can use cut-out shapes to make fun candles, or roll several pieces to make your own funky design. Add some extra bling to your candles with charms and ribbon – great for gifts! Craft appropriate for all ages.

Weber Middle School is going to have a real hands on exhibit where you can Create Clay Pets.  Children create imaginative colored clay animals and place them in various habitats. Will it be a jungle animal or one that lives in the ocean, on land or up in the sky?  Imagine and create your one-of-a-kind creature!

Come celebrate with HEARTS and join us at PortFest 2014!

HEARTS is an independent, grassroots not-for-profit 501(c)3 community organization whose mission is to add meaningful value to children's lives and our community by supporting, promoting and enriching the arts in Port Washington and its' public schools.

PortFest is the major fundraiser for the HEARTS organization.  In 2014, in just its third year of existence, HEARTS was thrilled to award 18 grants totaling over $30,000 to enrich art, music, theater, and writing programming throughout the Port Washington School District.  This year, children of all ages will be able to experience the joy of writing and playing new music, visiting NYC museums and Broadway workshops, joining an after school musical theater club, singing in a glee club, meeting successful professional artists, musicians and authors, and more.
