FOL Mourns Beverly Halm

Beverly Halm, longtime Port Washington resident and Friends of the Library board member passed away on May 4, following complications resulting from a stroke.  Ms. Halm was an active member of the Port Washington Community for over 40 years and was involved in numerous community organizations. A champion of cooking instruction, Halm studied with author Grace Young (Mastering the Art of Chinese Cooking) at the China Institute in NYC, was a driving force of the “Grand Chefs of LI” Continuing Education cooking program for over 26 years, and was a member of the NY Association of Cooking Professionals. She was a dedicated and passionate supporter of the Port Washington Library, and was honored with an award in 2011 for her service as past president and board member of Friends of the Library for over 30 years.

 

Ms. Halm graduated from Hunter College and received her Masters of Library Sciences at CW Post. Prior to her career as a school librarian for the New York City public school district, Halm worked for the president of MGM/Verve Records, was as a gallerist in Great Neck, and was an active member of The Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes. She is survived by her loving husband, Jerome Halm, her children, Ethan Halm and Meesha Halm, and her four grandchildren.

A funeral service for Beverly Halm will take place at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 6th at Port Jewish Center at 20 Manorhaven Blvd, Port Washington, NY, 11050. (516-944-7202.) The family will be also sitting Shiva at Port Jewish Center on Wednesday May 7th at 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that those interested may make a donation in her name to the Friends of the Library (pwpl.org/fol).
