Play Troupe Announces Auditions for "The 1940's Radio Hour"

Port Washington Play Troupe announces auditions for "The 1940's Radio Hour," a play with music, to be performed July 18-20 and 25-27 at the Landmark on Main Street.

The show is part of Play Troupe's year-long celebration of the Golden Era of Radio, which also includes a series of live broadcast radio dramas co-produced with WCWP (the community public radio station of LIU). And in a unique collaboration made possible by the Peter and Jeri Dejana Family Foundation, the July 20 performance of "The 1940's Radio Hour" will be a benefit for the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults.

Director Brian E. Long and Musical Director David Barnett will lead the creative team, following up on their successful production of "GREASE" at the Landmark on Main Street last summer.

The story of "The 1940's Radio Hour" takes place in late December 1942 at WOV, a small, run-down radio station with no shortage of big characters. Everyone from the curmudgeonly stage doorman to the bobbysoxer to the flask-happy crooner have gathered to record a broadcast for the troops overseas--and sing the decade's most popular songs, like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "That Old Black Magic," and "I'll Be Seeing You."

Auditions will take place on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 7:00-10:00pm in Classroom #5 at the United Methodist Church of Port Washington (35 Middle Neck Road, Port Washington, NY 11050). Auditioners are asked to park in the North lot and enter through the glass doors near the church.

Those who are unavailable on May 5 may request to be seen early on the first callback day (only) by emailing portwashingtonplaytroupe@gmail.com.

Callbacks are scheduled for Friday, May 9 from 7:00-10:00pm (Fellowship Hall, United Methodist Church of Port Washington), and final callbacks may be held on the afternoon of Saturday, May 10 (time and location TBD, this event will not be at the Methodist Church).
