Schreiber HS Students Awarded Angelo Del Toro Scholarship

Paul D. Schreiber High School English language learner students Candelario Enrique Ascencio, Maria Camila Beltran, Rosalynn Eguizabal and Mauricio Medrano recently attended the Angelo del Toro Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute in Albany.

The institute exists to develop leadership skills in Latino/Hispanic youth; to allow students the opportunity to interact with positive role models such as Puerto Rican/Latino elected officials, educators and business leaders; and to allow students to develop an in-depth knowledge of state legislative process.

In addition to engaging in leadership training workshops on conflict resolution, the students met with New York State assembly members and participated in a mock assembly on the assembly floor. Rosalynn and Candelario were awarded Angelo Del Toro Scholarship awards for college of $1,500 and $700, respectively.
