Community Leaders Zimbardi, Cardello to be Honored Saturday

Both men to be recognized at Pride In Port dinner dance at the Polish American Cultural Association Hall.

Salvatore Zimbardi and Stephen Cardello will be recognized Saturday for their support of Pride in Port and the Port Washington community. Both men have been instrumental in the management and longevity of the Pride in Port Celebration, now in its 25th Year.

Zimbardi, one of the co-chairs of Pride in Port for many years, has extensive community involvement with the Port Washington Fire Department where he served as captain and a member of the board of directors; Port Washington Lions Club; treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the Port Counseling Center, Inc.; treasurer and member of the board of directors of PortWashington Senior Citizens, Inc. He was elected police commissioner of the Port Washington Police District, serving 12 years.

Professionally, Zimbardi is principal of Zimbardi Financial Group, a financial services firm with offices in Port Washington. A long time resident of Port, where he resides with his wife Fran, he is a graduate of C.W. Post College. The couple has three children and three granddaughters.

Sgt. Cardello works with the Pride and Port Committee, the Town of North Hempstead and the Port Washington School district to make sure that Pride in Port runs smoothly each year. Arranging the re-routing of traffic, managing large crowds, and maintaining the flow of the day wouldn’t be possible without his involvement year after year.

Starting out as a police office in April 1981, Cardello earned the Medal of Honor for his life saving actions in 1982 and has also received numerous other citations and awards. During his 32 years of police service he has cultivated many relationships within the Port Washington Community, in addition to Pride in Port. He has worked with the Chamber of Commerce, Town of North Hempstead Fireworks, Port Washington Schools Emergency Preparedness Committee, PYA, PAL and many civic organizations. He currently serves as secretary on the Board of Directors for the Port Washington Federal Credit Union, and has held executive board positions on the Port Washington Police Benevolent Association.

Even though his home is in Massapequa with his wife Una, Cardello has dedicated his professional life to this Port Washington community. With an anticipated retirement in early 2014, he will have more time to spend with his three children and two grandchildren.

To share in honoring these community leaders, join your friends and neighbors at the Pride in Port Community Dinner Dance. Music by Powerglide, cocktail hour, dinner and raffles starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 28th at the Polish American Cultural Association Hall. Tickets are available for $30 at Ayhan’s Shish Kebab Restaurant, Carnel’s Printing Center, Port Washington Chamber of Commerce or by calling Marie (883-0312) or Barbara (883-6693.) Tickets are also available at the door for $35.
