Cookies by Any Other Name Don't Taste as Sweet

Sophia LaScala is a sales superstar.

Sophia LaScala knows how to win friends and influence people. She’s a 10-year-old Girl Scout with superstar sales abilities that would rival many Wall Streeters. Her first quarter results have been tallied and Patch is proud to report that she’s sold an impressive 2,100 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. As a result of her efforts, she will be attending Girl Scout camp this summer.

LaScala sees the experience as nothing but positive.

"I made lots of new friends and want to thank everyone who bought cookies," she said.

“We’re all extremely proud of her persistence," Mindy Lee, LaScala's troop leader, said. "Our girls all did well and we’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds to the .”

According to LaScala, the goal was set in January to sell 150 boxes a week for 14 weeks. The cold weather was a challenge but LaScala and her younger sister Lauren knocked on doors nearly every weekend. Accompanied by their mother, no section of Port was left unsolicited.

A top customer, Roger Haughwout, gave her a big order early in January and bought even more as the weeks wore on.  Roger said, “I love all the cookies and bought them because I have two nieces.”

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County commented that back in 2009, a scout sold 2,116 boxes  so expect to see LaScala around town this weekend.

Her goal? To sell 2,222.

Now, that's a lot of cookies.
