Chanukah Wonderland

A gigantic, ten foot high menorah made entirely out of Leggos...hands-on workshops making pure olive oil just like the Macabees of old...a world class Chanukah puppet show...Judaica bazaar... scrumptious food concessions...fun, games, crafts and even free T-shirts for the first 200 kids!!!

Times sure do change. Not so long ago, celebrating Chanukah meant eating some latkes, a few spins of the dreidel, some songs and of course, the menorah (and don't forget the chocolate gelt!). Now, the lucky children and entire community of Port Washington get to experience Chanukah Wonderland - a celebration of Chanukah and spirit like never before!

Chanukah Wonderland, a project of Chabad of Port Washington, will open its doors to the entire community on Sunday, December 25 between the hours of 1:00 and 3:30 PM.

Judah the Macabee greets the children and guides them as they take part in building Long Island's largest Leggo menorah, top their own yummy Chanukah donuts, create Chanukah crafts, learn the ancient art of pressing pure olive oil for lighting the menorah, relive the magic of Chanukah with the Small Wonder Puppet Theatre, enjoy yummy latkes and much more. Family members of all ages will love and learn from the many sites, sounds and smells of Chanukah in this truly unique Chanukah celebration.

"We're always looking for new ideas to keep the kids on the edge of their seats. We're creating an experience that puts every participant fully into the traditions of Chanukah, bringing history and culture to life in a fun, meaningful and educational way," said Rabbi Ilan Weinberg, director of youth activities at the Chabad of Port Washington.

Rabbi Shalom Paltiel, spiritual leader at Chabad said he hopes this event will unite the entire Jewish community in a spirit of pride and belonging. "The timing of Chanukah this year was perfect for something big, something that could bring together the entire community. We hope the Chanukah Wonderland does that."
