Interfaith Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

Temple Sinai of Roslyn will host a revolutionary program commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11, “Living as People of Faith in a Fearful World” on Sunday, September 11th from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.  This innovative, interfaith perspective will feature leaders from a wide variety of religious institutions in the community, namely The Islamic Center of Long Island, the Sid Jacobson JCC, Temple Judea of Manhasset, Shelter Rock Jewish Center, Friendship Baptist Church of Roslyn, Temple Beth Sholom, Trinity Episcopal Church of Roslyn, Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation, Roslyn Presbyterian Church and Temple Sinai of Roslyn.  The event will be co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island, and is free and open to the entire community.  No advanced reservations are needed.

The program will begin at 3:30pm with food, collation, introductions and informal conversations, followed by an hour of small-group, interfaith study led by religious leaders.  Attendees will have the option of attending whichever small-group session they wish, be it one facilitated by a leader within their own religion, or one of another affiliation altogether. Special study groups for teenagers will be available.  Following the break-out study groups, all will convene in the sanctuary of Temple Sinai for an interfaith commemoration of mourning and hope which will be focused around the four themes of 1) the dignity of every human being created in the image of God, 2) loving thy neighbor as one loves him/herself, 3) welcoming strangers and 4) visions of peace.  Performances by the choirs of the participating religious institutions, the Solomon Schechter School of Long Island and the Gordon Highlander Pipe Band will be an integral part of this final hour.
