Port Washington Wide Yom HaShoah Observance

Yom HaShoah Community-Wide Observance hosted by Port Jewish Center with Guest Speaker Harry Ebert, Holocaust Refugee, US Army Officer, Ritchie Boy.

Harry W. Ebert ws born in Heidelberg into a fully assimilated professional German-Jewish Family.  After Kristallnacht, during which his father was sent to Dachau, he went to Holland on a "Kinder Transport" and immigrated to the US one month prior to Hitler's invasion of Holland.  He attended a total of 11 schools in 7 cities and 4 countries before graduating from a NYC High school one day after his 16th birthday.

Ebert's undergraduate engineering studies were interrupted by four years of service with the US Army.  He was one of the Ritchie Boys, and his assignments includede security missions during the occupation of Germany and investigator for and court interpreter at the War Crimes trials.  He worked as a professional engineer for over 50 years and is still active in the field.
