Yom HaShoah Community Observance

The Port Washington Jewish community observance of Yom Hashoah will take place on the eve of the day of commemoration at The Community Synagogue located at 160 Middle Neck Road, Port Washington. In addition to attending this moving ceremony we encourage you to light a yizkor (remembrance) candle at home in memory of the 6 million Jews who were killed.

In addition to the commemoration, Dr. Sarah Cushman will speak on “A Bullying Culture – From the Holocaust to Today.”  She will discuss what lesson the Shoah can teach us about bullying, a problem in our time.

Dr. Cushman is Director of Youth Education at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County and is writing a chapter about the women telecommunications specialists in Auschwitz. She speaks to young people and adults all around Long Island about the Holocaust and its lessons for today.
