Bay Walk Expansion Discussion Thursday

Meeting at Port library at 7 p.m.

A public meeting is planned this week at the Port Washington Library to discuss expansion of Bay Walk along of the Manhasset Bay shoreline in Port Washington.

Sponsored by Residents For A More Beautiful Port Washington, the event will run in conjunction with the annual meeting on “The Future of Bay Walk” Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. 

The meeting is open to the public.

On the agenda:

  • Keynote speaker Port Washington North Mayor Bob Weitzner will present schematic designs for phase II of Bay Walk, “Bay Walk Park,” a passive park along Bay Walk that will include a kayak launch area into a lagoon, shade sails and bicycle racks.  
  • Robert Brinkmann, chief of sustainability for Manorhaven Village and professor of geology, environment and sustainability at Hofstra University will share Manorhaven’s progress along Bay Walk, including a new dog park. 
  • Gina L. Sillitti, deputy chief of staff/director of legislative affairs office of the supervisor, Town of North Hempstead will share planning efforts underway by the town’s Bay Walk Steering Committee to extend Bay Walk from the Town Dock all the way to Manorhaven Beach Park.
