Farmer's Market Open For Business This Weekend

The Port Washington Farmers’ Market will open their season June 8.

The market will be set up on the Town Dock every Saturday until the last weekend in October from 8 a.m. to noon bringing to the residents of the local area a wide selection of fresh foods mostly grown or made on Long Island or caught in nearby south shore waters.

As regulars often say, nothing comes close to the taste of just-picked sautéed greens and potatoes (or squash) and a nice piece of fresh fish. Plus, buying from the farmers’ market helps support the local sustainable farm community and offers safe and sustainable food choices.

Port’s market is the only 100 percent organic market in the state, according to organizers, who offer support to growers who work in harmony with nature.

This year's market includes beautiful produce from the Golden Earthworm Farm and Orient Organics, breads, cheeses, fresh salsas and empanadas, juices, fish, honey, flowers from Emerald Farm, local baked goods and organic coffee from Café Mam.

The market is a project of local non-profit, Grassroots Environmental Education.  For more information, call Patti or Doug Wood at Grassroots at 883-0887.
