Good News: Levittown Girls to Rep NY in Pageant

Stories that put a smile on your face from around Long Island.

Two Levittown girls are headed to Disneyland to compete in the National American Miss Princess Pageant. 

Shanel and Sayjel Tan were previously selected to compete in the New York State pageant in the age 4-6 division. At that pageant on August 9 and 10, the girls qualified to compete in the National finals this November at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

Malverne Teacher Named Gold Star Teacher of the Year

Michael Whalen, an economics teacher at Malverne High School, has been named a Gold Star Teacher for the 2012-13 school year by W!SE, an educational nonprofit that endeavors to build financial literacy in young people.

Knights of Columbus Provide Relief

The Port Washington Senior Center has been temporarily closed for renovations.  But programs such as tai chi, yoga, painting, hot lunches and the others offered to the community’s seniors will continue thanks to the generosity of the Knights of Columbus.

With the popular programs in at risk, the center's board of directors and staff approved an alternate location for the four-six week renovation period.
