North-Shore LIJ Chief Michael Dowling sent a letter to Mayor Ralph Suozzi earlier in the week detailing future plans for the "new" Glen Cove Hospital.

The future plan for Glen Cove Hospital includes the following, laid out in more detail in Dowling's letter published on the city's website:

•  The hospital will continue to provide emergency services in their current state with 24-hour access to doctors and nurses and a special emphasis on elder care.
• The hospital will keep a few inpatient beds to meet the essential needs of the community. A short stay clinical decision unit will be established for patients that need longer treatment than an emergency room can provide.
• The hospital will work with Hospice Care Network to increase hospital and home-based end of life care programs.
• Outpatient cancer services will continue as they are.
• Outpatient therapy will continue. Respiratory therapy services will be available on site.
• Family medicine for indigents will continue to be offered. 
• North Shore-LIJ may make use of unused space in the hospital by using it as office space.

Big Opening Saturday of 'Bounce!' in Syosset

A new business, "Bounce!" is holding its grand opening Saturday and Sunday at its new trampoline sports facility in Syosset.

Bounce! offers customers an opportunity to play and get fit on spacious courts of interconnected trampolines. The facility is open 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. this weekend at its new location, 310 Michael Drive, Syosset.

In conjunction with its grand opening, Bounce! will host a fundraiser for the Nassau County Firefighter Burn Center Fund. On Sunday, a second fundraiser will benefit the Nassau County Detectives’ Charitable Foundation. 

Bounce! will offer fitness classes for all ages and levels, open jump time, trampoline dodgeball, slam dunk basketball, foam pit jumping and both individual and group trampoline training classes taught by qualified instructors.

Farmingdale State College issued an alert Thursday that a commuter student has contracted MRSA, a bacterial infection that has forced a campus cleanup.

"There is no evidence that the student contracted MRSA from any location of the campus," Farmingdale State President Hubert Keen said in a statement. "But with the safety and health of our students, faculty, and staff uppermost in our minds, we are taking all possible precautions."

Those include the cleaning of certain classrooms and athletic facilities, college officials said.

Beer Belly's Heading to Bayside

Beer Belly's is expected to debut at the former Cascarino's site on Bell Boulevard in Bayside in early November, a spokesman for the sports bar said.

The bar and eatery, expected to open at 39-17 Bell Blvd. in Bayside, will have 50 beers on tap and 70 types of bourbon and whiskey.
