Port Blogs: Local Musician Dies, Keeping Kids Safe

Patch highlights a few of Port Washington's top bloggers.

Port Washington Patch bloggers packed the site this week. In case you missed it, here are some of the highlights.

RIP Marian McPartland

Accomplished jazz musician Marian McPartland died Aug. 20. She is known to some as a jazz pianist,  to others as an educator, record producer (Halcyon Records), and composer -- and to still others as the host of a long-running NPR radio show, wrote one of our bloggers.

McPartland played with the likes of Elvis Costello, Peggy Lee and Sarah Vaughan.

The Vegan Diaries

On Friday, another blogger highlighted what she called an "extraordinary week filled with vegan news, podcasts, recipes and other vegan goodies."

On her post, she points towards a list of top reasons to select a plant-based diet. Check it out.

Not So Hot For Kids

It may seem like stating the obvious, but it's not. Every year, little ones get sick or die when they're left in the car on a hot day.

North Shore-LIJ blogged that cars get much hotter inside than the outdoor temperature.

"In 10 minutes, a car’s heat can rise 19 degrees. So during an 80-degree day, the temperature inside a closed car can quickly exceed 100 degrees. Leaving the window open “a crack” does not help," North Shore-LIJ wrote.

The post has lift-saving tips. Give it a read.

Meet Cosmos Players

Our newest professional soccer team is blogging as well. The New York Cosmos posted that children attending the Sept. 28 game get to stand on the field.
