You know spring is in the air in Port Washington when you spot Mel's ice cream truck.

At about 3 p.m. Thursday, Mel sold an ice cream to his very first customer of 2014. The young frozen-dessert enthusiast noticed Mel's truck parked two blocks away from her bus stop, and ran straight to the truck to pick up a treat.

Her first pick of the season? Birthday Cake, a new Good Humor flavor said to feature vanilla ice cream with a cake crunch coating, and a vanilla cake flavored center.

Summer can't be too far away...

I saw him yesterday when I was taking a walk. Hopeful sign that Spring is here.

Thank G-D it's not Mister Softee with the most annoying jingle on the face of the earth. Anyone ever hear about long gone "Bungalo Bar" they had very interesting trucks similar to the original Good Humor trucks where the driver had to exit and reach blindly into freezer compartments to retrieve ice cream.

I hope they do not invent the mobile nail salon. They too might have a "Coming Soon" sign plastered across the front windshield just as numerous businesses have in their windows.
