St. Peter of Alcantara Announces Plans For Dinner Dance

Committees for St. Peter of Alcantara's 48th Annual Parish Party are now forming, and everyone is invited to lend their time, talent and treasure!

The date for the grand event when parishioners, families and friends gather to give thanks and share their spirit is Nov. 22. The soiree will take place at Leonard’s of Great Neck, and event co-chairs Janice McGrath and Mary Giordano, together with their husbands Tom McGrath and Rick Atkinson, promise a fun-filled glamorous evening, featuring gourmet dining, dancing to the sounds of the celebrated Meade Brothers band, and lots of fun surprises.

Leonard’s stunning ballroom is among the most spectacular spaces in Long Island. Mixing and mingling amid posh surroundings, guests will dance, bid on a selection of exciting auction items, try their hand at raffles and sweepstakes, and most importantly, support their parish church, which remains as Port Washington’s beacon of faith since its inception more than 100 years ago.

The theme for this year’s gathering is Blessed Are The Peacemakers.

“In an era of seemingly increasing conflict from war, terrorism, and violence,” remarked veteran Parish Party Organizer Janice McGrath, “We are collectively yearning for more peace in our world. We often struggle with a feeling of hopelessness that we alone are not able to affect change and make a difference. We chose Blessed are the Peacemakers to remind all of us that each one of us can contribute to peace through acts of kindness, charity and goodwill. No good deed is insignificant.”

The occasion welcomes family and friends of the parish, as well as the surrounding community.

“We are confident the dinner dance will help meet our financial goals,” said Father Patrick J. Whitney, Pastor of St. Peter’s. “We hope that everyone will consider attending and/or helping in any way they can. This sole fund-raising event ensures that our parish can continue to serve the community daily through ministries such as Baptism/RCIA, pre-cana, bereavement, pastoral council, outreach, CYO and more.”

Organizers are actively seeking sponsorships, event journal advertisers, and donations for the silent auction. Auction donations can be anything related to goods, services or leisure time. Ideas include certificates to restaurants, hotels, vacation homes; theatre/sporting events; visits to private clubs, vacation homes, condos, time shares, etc.; access to rounds of golf, trap-shooting and other interactive experiences; gift certificates for area retailers, taxi/limo companies, etc., and goods and services from area retailers and professional trades.
