Yankees baseball opener and free movie tickets

Doings for Port Washington residents.

It’s spring, the calendar says so and the New York Yankees open their 2011 season at home today (1:05 p.m. vs. Detroit, YES Network). However, it will feel more like winter today with rain, possibly mixed with snow tonight, and temperatures in the low 40s.

If you venture out, however, there is plenty going on.

1. Long Island’s Alzheimer's Foundation will have an Open House from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today. The location is 5 Channel Drive, Port Washington. Learn about the foundation’s innovative cognitive stimulation workshops, social day programs, support groups and respite services. Enjoy a glass of wine and assorted cheeses, meet the staff and other healthcare professionals. For information, and to reserve a space, call 516-767-6856.

2. The will hold a Board of Trustees Work Session meeting at 8 p.m. tonight. The location is  1 Bonnie Heights Rd, Manhasset.

3. The Port Washington varsity boys lacrosse team hosts Uniondale in a 4:30 p.m. match at today. Go out and cheer on the Vikings, who go for their fourth straight victory to start the season.
