Artists Go Green to Celebrate the Earth

Art Guild of Port Washington exhibition brings awareness to the beauty of our planet.

One way to spend Earth Day this year is to visit the Art Guild of Port Washington and view their current exhibition"Going Green" in celebration of the beauty of our planet.Visitors can stake a claim to  nature in it's many moods by purchasing and bringing home one of the masterpieces.

Visions of roaring surf, the power of lightning and the changing seasons are striking examples of Mother Nature's varied gifts to artists. Art with environmental themes having an emphasis on recycling and preservation are presented in novel and amusing ways by the artists selected for this juried competition. Birds, butterflies, turtles are just some of the creatures depicted in their natural habitats in the artwork.

Viewers experience a return to nature in artistic expressions of  lush wetlands, cornfields, flowers, brilliant sunsets and nightfall in a forest. Watercolors of the gardens of Nassau County  are also part of this delightful melange. Some of  the artists were inspired by faraway mystical places such as Crete and St. Remy, France and also Paradise. Paintings, photographs, drawings and mixed media eco-creations are for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to support the guild's programs. The exhibition is open until May 1.
