The Port Summer Show got a little closer to Broadway after its closing performance on Sunday. That’s when the cast learned that sitting in the audience was Evan Pappas, who in 1992 originated the role of Benjy Stone at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in Lincoln Center.
“You really just touched me so much,” Pappas said, on stage, addressing the Port Summer Show cast, including recent graduate Christopher Falcioni, who played Benjy Stone in the
“Well done – congratulations,” he added, joining a boisterous round of applause.
“My Favorite Year” was the first original American musical performed at the Beaumont, and the first to use the theater’s brand new orchestra pit, according to the Lincoln Center Theater.
Pappas has also appeared in the original Broadway production of “Parade," and also performed in “A Chorus Line,” among others, according to broadwayworld.com.
Pappas learned about the show through a friend of his, a casting director, whose daughter is one of the Port Summer Show performers. His this experience a “favorite year” for everyone in the theater.
