Dolphin To Feature Columbia, Juilliard Musicians

Stop by the cafe Friday.

Café Music, the free music series at Dolphin brings something new on Friday.

Series curator and founder Solomon Hoffman says he will be performing with his new ensemble, LyricLion.

The group aims to play works by student composers. Many of the pieces are Hoffman's own compositions as well as collaborations with singer-songwriters to present their songs with classical instruments as accompaniment. Hearing songs in a more pop-indie style with flute, bassoon, french horn, two violins and two cellos puts what might be familiar tunes into a different context.

The ensemble features seven musicians, all of whom are students at Columbia. Many of them participate in the exchange program with the Juilliard School and some are graduates of the Juilliard Pre-College program. On Friday, the group will also be joined by singers Sarah Dooley, Olivia Harris and Devin Lloyd.  The 11 performers involved will make this one of the largest groups to perform in the series.

Enjoy free live music from 7-9 p.m.
