North Hempstead Notebook: Film Fest and Music

June means festivals in the Town of North Hempstead.

Here is a look at some of the happenings in the Town of North Hempstead. 

Gold Coast International Film Festival

The first begins this week from June 1-June 5. The festival will bring films from all sorts of genres: comedy, family, documentary, drama, shorts and more. The festival will take place at Clearview Cinema theaters in , Manhasset, Great Neck, Roslyn, and New Hyde Park. On June 2, GCIF will honor actor Bruce Dern at .

KidStock

Saturday, June 4, marks the first annual KidStock children’s music festival, at .

“KidStock is going to be a real treat for the kids, as well as the parents looking for an opportunity to spend some quality family time together outdoors,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “This event is just another facet of the many offerings we have organized for residents to help promote a sense of community and celebrate our camaraderie.”

Festivities begin 12-5 p.m. (Rain Date: June 5) at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. Guests will be charged $5 to park. The park will open to the public at 11:30 am.

On tap: Roscoe Orman, “Gordon” of Sesame Street as the emcee, and a mix of blend of folk, rock, kid hop and kindie rock. Also featured: Broccoli Rob Show, a hilarious performance aimed at promoting healthy eating habits for kids and adults through music, dance, and martial arts.

Local favorite Strummin’ and Drummin,’ featuring brothers Chris and Matt Marshak, promises to get the crowd daincing.

Other performers include the critically acclaimed Secret Agent 23 Skidoo with Hip Hop for Kids and the Grammy-nominated Brady Rymer & the Little Band That Could.
