Orleans Concert Ends Early in Port Washington

Many left as soon as soon as the rain and lightening began.

Even before Orleans took to the stage Friday night at , parts of the the sky overhead looked ominous.

Still, the band, featuring cofounder and former Congressman John Hall, was sure to treat concert-goers to some of its big hits early in the evening. Crowd-pleasers included "Still The One" and "Dance With Me," whose rich melodies sounded especially good on the stage.

Earlier in the evening, the band was introduced by Assembywoman Michelle Schimel, D-Great Neck, who said she's seen the band perform live in Ithaca, and that "Love Takes Time" is a favorite.

Manorhaven Beach Park was the only New York appearance this year for the band, which rescheduled the performance after the sudden death of lead singer .

On Friday, though, the storm brought the performance to an early close, with audience members rushing home before the rain and lightening began in earnest.

It's a great idea to offer the "FREE" concerts except that there is usually very dangerous weather. It might have been safer to have the concert at the alternate location Schrieber High. Hope the towns lack of concern for safety is looked into and will have them pay more attention to weather reports. Any possibility even the smallest chance of dangerous weather should mean re-locating the event in the name of safety. The Town allready had Schreiber prepared. This is why my wife and I did not go to the concert. We learned a good lesson after the Concert last year. Besides it took over half an hour to get home to main Street last year after very dangerous thunderstorms rolled in.
