VIDEO: Hundreds Take The Plunge

8th Annual Town of North Hempstead Polar Plunge raised money for the Special Olympics.

There are more than 52,000 Special Olympics athletes across the state of New York and majority of the funding comes from events like the . The athletes and their families aren't charged to participate in the Special Olympics because of the vast fundraising done by teams across New York.

Many teams sign up to participate and fundraiser for the Polar Plunge that took place on Saturday at . There were more than 1,000 team members on the beach on Saturday. Not all of them jumped into the water, but they did their part to ensure the Special Olympics continues.
