Bronx Company Eyes Port Washington Building

The move would bring jobs to North Hempstead.

R-Best Produce, a Bronx-based wholesale produce distributor, is considering a move to Port Washington.

The supplier to more than 300 independent supermarkets and chain buyers in the region is eying a 165,000-square-foot building on 99 Seaview Avenue. It has applied to the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency, seeking tax breaks and other assistance.

The company’s principals also run Uncle Giuseppe’s, according to Newsday, which reported that the move would bring 51 jobs to Nassau in 2013, with another 12 more by 2017.

The building currently has five tenants whose leases are about to expire, an IDA spokesman said.

The company wants a 10-year freeze on property taxes and to cap annual increases at 2 percent for five years, according to Newsday, which also reported that R-Best is seeking a sales-tax exemption on equipment and renovations.

The IDA, which aims to promote Nassau's economic welfare and prosperity, is expected to vote on the application when it meets Wednesday at the Nassau County Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola.

Does anyone know what company is doing the big expansion at 85 Harbor Rd? This used to be Franklin Stainless, but I think they moved out. Who is moving In?

We lose a stainless steel supplier and get an enlarged "shake-n-go", I think that says a lot about the state of the US economy!

Lets give then tax breaks and screw homeowners. What about jobs? Will they be locals or imported from out of town? I expect these issues addressed by the officials making the deal. You want a break? Hire the locals for everything.
