Carnel’s Printing to Host Holiday Magic Event For Charity

Proceeds from Dec. 4 event to go to Animal Cancer Foundation.

A Port Washington business will host a holiday fundraiser in an effort to help unite human medical and veterinary cancer researchers to find cures for people and pets.

The event, to benefit the Animal Cancer Foundation, runs Dec. 4 from 5-8 p.m. at Carnel’s Printing, at 22 Main St. during Port Washington's annual Port Holiday Magic celebration.

“We are reaching out to all the Port residents whose lives have been touched by pet and human cancer to ask for their support to help fund ACF’s efforts to find a cure,” said Animal Cancer Foundation’s board president and fellow Port resident David Levine, MD.

Carnel’s Printing owner and local resident Judy Ray, pet parent of dogs Willow and Kelba, became aware of the high incidence of pet cancer when loyal customers and friends in the local community had lost pets to cancer, including cancers that also occur in humans.

According to the National Cancer Institute Comparative Oncology website, there are 12 million new diagnoses per year in the United States alone.

Through fellow Port resident Barbara Cohen, executive director of Animal Cancer Foundation, Ray says she heard about efforts to unite medical and veterinary researchers to find cures.

“Animal Cancer Foundation funds clinical trials available to pet parents through their local veterinary oncology practices that are designed to help the pet and at the same time provide relevant information to human medical oncology,” said Cohen.

Carnel’s Printing and a volunteer fundraising committee comprised of local residents Susan Love, Marketta Watson and Patricia Ryan Lampl and teens Anna Cohen and Anna Watson, are joining with Animal Cancer Foundation to raise funds to support the important work uniting pet and human cancer research.

On Dec. 4, Carnel’s will give direct donations to Animal Cancer Foundation. Also that evening the business will conduct a raffle of a Holiday Magic Giftware Basket including custom notepads, a crystal photo frame, a box of Lindt chocolates.

Other surprises will be offered to shoppers along with refreshments.

Donors of $10 or more will receive a customized photo snow globe from Carnel’s Printing as a thank you for their generosity.
