For Sale: What $9.9 Million Buys in Sands Point

Beachfront estate with Manhattan views on the market.

Sands Point has always been emblematic of the Gold Coast lifestyle. The view, amenities and price tag will make you scream “Great Gatsby!”

This is true of the newest property to hit the market. Located on a sandy beach overlooking the Long Island Sound, this six-bed, six-bath home is listed at $9.99 million, according to our partners at AOL Real Estate.

“It’s a magnificent Mediterranean beachfront with views of the Manhattan skyline and bridges,” said realtor Phyllis Realmuto of Daniel Gale Sotheby's.

The estate, built in 2000 on 2.5 acres, has been on the market 37 days, according to Zillow.

Taxes are estimated $64,661.

Taxes are more than most American's make in 1 year

I agree with Archie. The government should give me a subsidy so I can purchase this house and pay the taxes. It's not fair that someone can have a 9.9 million dollar house but I can't. Also, I hope the rich owner has flood and hurricane insurance so he (or she) is prepared for "the big one" that's bound to hit LI one of these days.

You do get a subsidy: "carried interest" taxed at a mere15%. Get some.
George Mulligan September 27, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Nassau Taxpayer, how does "an ordinary Joe" get "carried interest?" Don't you have to run a hedge fund and make money to get carried interest?
NH Runner September 27, 2012 at 12:43 pm
The taxes are not accurate. if taxed at full market value, they would be approximately double the stated amount - about 90k per year.
George Mulligan September 27, 2012 at 09:39 pm
Even with a subsidy in the form of tax deductiond for mortgage interest and property tax, 99% of Americans could not afford to live in this house. It's nice to be rich. I wish I were. But I've resigned myself to my situation. It isn't too bad, and maybe my rewards will come in the next life.

No, you do like Mitt Romney and claim you don't run a hedge fund... and pay even less.

Or, as the NY Lottery ad goes, "Hey, you never know..."
George Mulligan September 27, 2012 at 10:41 pm
Nassau Taxpayer, from your lips to God's ears. Isn't that what keeps many of us going...Hey you never know.
Nassau Taxpayer September 28, 2012 at 01:38 am
Indeed.
