Main Street Jewelry Store Closing Doors

Five J's Jewelers moving sales online after 37 years in business.

They've served the Port Washington community for nearly four decades but a longtime Port Washington business will close its doors Saturday.

"I loved it,' said Joan Hutchinson the owner Five J’s Jewelers, at 155 Main St. "I'm really sorry to leave but I just feel like it's time."

Hutchinson said the jewelry business is not the way it used to be with shrinking profit margins due to internet sales and changing times forcing change.

"Jewelry was for every occasion," but not anymore, said Hutchinson. Electronic items like iPhones and computer games have have become more popular as gifts while jewelry has declined, she says.

The store has operated at its current location for the past four of its 37 years in Port Washington. Five J's will move online selling wholesale diamonds and other items in the future.

In a statement, The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce Chamber thanked Hutchinson for her years of support and wished her the best of luck in the future.

The store will be selling all remaining inventory at cost until Saturday with COC members getting an extra five percent off.
