New Job Club Forming in Port Washington

Members will learn new strategies to land work.

Port resident and career coach Cathy Rimsky is launching a job club, which will begin meeting at , beginning Jan. 10. Patch caught up with Rimsky to find out the details.

You're starting a job club.  Tell us about it.

Job search can be lonely at times.  A job club is an opportunity for individuals in  transition to meet as a group to network, share job leads and contacts, support each other and teach valuable job search strategies and techniques.  It is the power of the group that is so important and people helping and encouraging each other.

What prompted you to start it?

In order to get a job in this competitive market, people need to be much more proactive and they need to incorporate a variety of job search strategies in addition to responding to jobs online.  A job club is one vehicle for making contacts, learning about job leads before they get posted and networking.  It is also a way to help others while also helping yourself.  It can keep people accountable and help them maintain a positive attitude.  I want to provide helpful information and best practices to people to hopefully shorten their search time.

How often will it meet?

Two times per month for 1 ½ hours each time.

What do you expect from members?

I expect a commitment to support and encourage the group, to attend meetings regularly, maintain a positive attitude and be willing to share leads, contacts and resources. I also expect them to come with questions and concerns about their job search so it can benefit the group.

What will participants get from it?

It will provide some structure for their job search since each meeting participants will talk about what they have been doing and what they plan to do going forward.  Also it will give them the opportunity to get fresh ideas or ways to handle challenging situations.  There will also be an opportunity to get feedback on resumes, cover letters, interview strategies etc. If participants would like guest speakers I will arrange to get them.  The goal is for the job club to meet the group's needs so that will evolve based in the participants.

Is there a fee?

There is no fee.

How can people learn more?

They can contact me at info@partnersinhr.com.  The first meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10, but I would like interested participants to contact me before hand.
